A recount by the Lee County Board of Elections confirmed Tuesday that candidate Ophelia Livingston will join the Lee County Board of Education.
Livingston, a candidate who finished third out of six for three open seats on the board, posted a Facebook update noting that the recount was over and her margin over fourth place finisher Phillip Helms had been upheld.
Helms told the Sanford Herald that he requested the recount due to the razor thin margin – just 32 votes, which shrank to 17 after provisional ballots were counted.
Tuesday night, Livingston posted updates for the recount in each precinct. In the end, her margin increased by four votes.
Congrats!
Excellent!!! 🙂
