Some media outlets have stated it as rumor. ABC11 flat-out ran with it.
But sorry, Sanford, that building under construction that caught fire today on South Horner Boulevard (next to Capital Bank, across from Southside Plaza) was not a future Starbucks.
According to the Sanford Fire Department, the building will be home to a mattress clearance store, which isn’t nearly as exciting, we’ll admit. Mattress Firm already has a store in the plaza near PetCo and Buffalo Wild Wings, but the company does have clearance stores in some markets as well. While it may be odd to have that store so close to your original new store, it’s not unheard of. Cary has both a Mattress Firm and a clearance store within a mile of the Crossroads village. Raleigh has two on Glenwood Avenue.
Monday’s fire, which started around 3:30 p.m., was the result of a welding mishap that sparked foam at the construction site. Crews were on the scene within minutes, shutting down traffic on Horner Boulevard for over 30 minutes. The fire did considerable damage, according to SFD, but it’s not known of the structure held up well enough for construction to continue.
Coffee lovers might be saddened by the news, but it’s not all bad. Dunkin Donuts will be serving its overrated coffee and donuts in the new strip of stores going up next to Buffalo Wild Wings (a vitamin store recently opened there). Jimmy John’s subs is also expected to move in there as well in the coming months.
I heard rumor of a Lidl going in somewhere in Sanford. Any idea of where that will be?

“Dunkin’ Donuts…..overrated coffee”….that is your opinion…..i think their coffee is some of the best on the market…..overpriced, yes….overrated….not so sure about that.
Wrong it’s officially a Starbucks
