bigfoot

Despite the fact that modern science has yet to provide definitive proof of the existence of BigFoot, 99% of us are pretty damned sure he exists.

Spirits O’Sanford — a group usually busy this time of year ghost hunting in places like the Temple Theatre or other spooky, old places — will celebrate Sasquatch and his love of beef jerky this Saturday (Sept. 24) at the Camelback Bridge on Cumnock Road near the Lee-Chatham county line.

The event sounds like honest-to-goodness dumb fun … and we mean that very positively.  The festival will include contests for “hairiest man,” “best beard” and, of course, the “biggest foot.” BigFoot research/investigators Stephen Barcelo of Littleton and Tommy Poland of Uwharrie will speak, and for the big finale, there will be an audience Q&A and storytelling for the kids.

Cost is $5 (cash only … BigFoot doesn’t do credit or debit), and children 12 and under get in free. BigFoot memorabilia will be available for purchase. The event starts at 4 p.m. — guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
