UPDATE (8/24): The Rant has learned that Taveun Davis was sentenced Thursday to life in prison, but with the possibility of parole for the 2015 murder of Marcus Murchison.
ORIGINAL STORY (8/23): Taveun Davis was found guilty Tuesday of first degree murder in connection with the 2015 shooting death of Marcus Murchison, the Rant has learned.
Davis was accused in September 2015, when he was just 16 years old, of shooting Marcus Murchison at Murchison’s home on Beulah Brown Road in Lee County. Murchison was described by various media outlets as “a well-known party DJ.”
Davis also fired shots at Murchison’s girlfriend, but she was not injured.
After the shooting, Davis was at large for nearly a month. He turned himself in on Oct. 20, 2015.
Testimony in the trial took up most of last week. After closing arguments Tuesday, the jury took just 49 minutes to bring back the verdict.
Davis, who was also convicted of attempted murder, attempted robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, will be sentenced on Thursday. He faces life in prison.
Defense attorney Nicolle Phair represented Davis. Chris Autry of the Lee County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted.
