A murder trial is reaching its conclusion this week in Lee County, the Rant has learned.
Taveun Dayquan Davis is accused in the September 2015 shooting death of Marcus Murchison, who WNCN described at the time as “a well-known party DJ.”
Sources tell the Rant that testimony took up most of last week and that a jury will hear closing arguments on Tuesday.
Davis was 16 years old when he was accused by Lee County sheriff’s deputies of shooting Murchison at his Beulah Brown Road home. Davis is alleged to also have fired shots at Murchison’s girlfriend, but she was not injured. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
After the shooting, Davis was at large for nearly a month. He turned himself in on Oct. 20, 2015.
Defense attorney Nicolle Phair represents Davis, while Chris Autry of the Lee County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting.
