North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is scheduled to visit Sanford’s Pfizer plant for the second time in three months, the Rant has learned.

Cooper will visit on Wednesday, Oct. 4, when the company is expected to announce the location of a gene therapy facility at its Sanford location off U.S. 15-501.

Cooper last visited in early August for a celebration of the drug manufacturer’s acquisition from GlaxoSmithKline of Nimenrix, a vaccine which protects against Neisseria meningitidis. Shortly after that visit, company officials announced the gene therapy program (subscription required), an expansion worth $100 million and which is expected to generate 40 new jobs.

It’s unknown whether this visit will be open to the public, although the August visit was not.
