The Sanford Police Department is looking into whether the Sanford man accused on Friday by Cary police of inappropriately touching children at bus stops there is behind similar reports filed recently in Sanford.
WRAL and WTVD each reported on Monday that Felipe Lopez-Delacruz, 32, of 83 Thornwood Loop in Sanford, was arrested on Friday in Cary on multiple counts of taking indecent liberties with children.
Police there reportedly began staking out the area after two students at Cary High School reported to their school resource officer that a man approached multiple children at bus stops on Oct. 2 and Oct. 11 and touched them inappropriately. Lopez-Delacruz was arrested after a traffic stop on Friday.
Lopez-Delacruz’s alleged actions are at least superficially similar to those described by students and parents in Sanford back in September, when multiple reports surfaced that a Hispanic man in a black or blue sedan, possibly a Chevrolet, had been lurking near bus stops and attempting to lure children into his vehicle. It was unclear what type of vehicle Lopez-Delacruz was driving at the time of his arrest.
Lopez-Delacruz is in custody in Wake County.
