Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly made a stop in Sanford Wednesday to meet with future running back and Lee County High School senior Jahmir Smith.

Kelly is wrapping up his eighth year as the head coach of arguably college football’s most storied program, which he led to the national championship game in just his second year.

This year, the Irish started strong and looked to be a contender for a playoff spot, but lost three down the stretch for a 9-3 finish. They will take on LSU in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day.

While we’re not sure what his visit had to do with law enforcement, Lee County Sheriff Tracy Carter seemed pretty stoked about it on Facebook:
