Who says you can’t go home again?
Former Lee County head football coach Burton Cates, who resigned earlier this year, has been named as the head coach at Eastern Randolph High School. Cates spent 25 years at Eastern Randolph before his time in Sanford.
And who was there to shake his hand? None other than Eastern Randolph Principal Greg Batten, who hired Cates away from ER when he was the principal at Lee.
So, looks like we’ve come full circle.
Cates compiled a 74-38 record in nine years as Lee’s coach. He has 310 wins in his career, including a state championship. Eastern Randolph even named the stadium after him.
Lee County hired Steve Burdeau as its head coach in early May.
