Work appears to have begun on the new Fairfield Marriott hotel on Amos Bridges Road in the Northview area of Sanford.
Crews have begun clearing the land at 131 Amos Bridges Road, which sits just to the northeast of the intersection of Hawkins Avenue and U.S. 1, and we’re told construction permits have been issued for the project.
First announced in June 2017, the hotel project seems to have kicked off a small wave of development in the area, including the construction of a FirstHealth medical facility on the other side of U.S. 1, which opened in October, as well as a proposed 288-unit apartment complex.
The four-story, 105-room Marriott hotel will sit across from The Oaks Apartments and will become the first lodging option for southbound U.S. 1 travelers as they enter Sanford. The land was purchased in 2014 by Washington, N.C.-based East Coast Hospitality LLC.
There have been consistent rumors about a chain restaurant being built on the adjoining property, but we’ve been unable to find anything to substantiate them. The 3.3 acre plot of land immediately to the south of the hotel site remains privately owned.

This is ridiculous. Like Sanford needs another hotel.
This project actually started over 10 years ago when the bought the land. It was to be a Candlewood Suites.
This is the same owner as the Holiday Inn Express in town.
Since the larger chain hotels are all close together, this will pull from Comfort and Hampton. You will find rates go down in this area.
