Libations, the craft beer and wine shop/tasting room on Chatham Street which opened in 2016, has been sold for the second time since its opening, the Rant has learned.

The bar area at Libations underwent an expansion/relocation in late 2018.

Sources indicate to the Rant that Chef Gregg Hamm, the owner of Cafe 121 just a few doors down, has purchased the business from owner Richard Porter and plans to begin offering a small tasting menu soon.

It’s unclear if that will require the installation of a kitchen, with Hamm having access to one on the same block, but extensive renovations in the second part of 2018 have potentially made room for one after the location’s current bar was moved into what had formerly been the retail side of the operation.

Libations opened at 139 Chatham Street in the fall of 2016 and was sold in part to businessman Richard Porter about a year later. Tentative plans were announced at that time to begin offering food, and although a kitchen was never constructed, Porter did expand the bar area significantly.

We’ve reached out to Hamm, who has owned Cafe 121 for the last several years and is also a culinary instructor for Central Carolina Community College, for more information.
