The Hi-Lites Ladies’ Clothing store on Steele Street in downtown Sanford is set to close in the coming weeks, the Rant has learned.
A “store closing sale” sign has been posted outside the shop at 128 S. Steele St., and the owner of the building Hi-Lites leases confirmed recently that the shop is expected to close soon.
“My understanding is that the company is closing multiple stores and it’s a strategic move for them about how the company as a whole is going to move forward,” said Brandon Atkins, a managing partner with Atkins Commercial Advisors. “It’s not limited to Sanford, and they told me that the Sanford store actually performed pretty well.”
Atkins said the future of the property is unclear, and that Hi-Lites representatives even told him they could end up using the same property for another one of the company’s concepts. Failing that, however, Atkins said he’s confident that he’ll be able to find a new tenant in quick fashion.
“We get calls on our properties all the time, and it’s just about finding the right fit,” he said.
