Lee County sheriff’s deputies suspect that contracted employees working the soon-to-open W.B. Wicker Elementary School are responsible for stealing unspecified school property from the site.

A press release from the sheriff’s office indicates that the theft from the school at 806 S. Vance St. is believed to have taken place between Aug. 16 and 17. The press release describes the case as “active and ongoing.”

Classes at the new school, which the Rant profiled earlier in August, are slated to begin on Monday.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 775-5531.
