Residents and visitors have a new option for exploring Sanford’s thriving art scene right from their smartphones, thanks to the Otocast app and a grant from the VisitSanford Tourism Development Authority.

Otocast is an audio guide to local art that features artist commentary, videos, and photographs. Each of Sanford’s murals, sculptures, and other public art objects are included. The app even shows the art on a map so that users can easily move from location to location.

“Sanford has developed a reputation for diverse and interesting works of public art,” said Liz Whimore, a city planner and director of the public arts program. “Now anyone who is interested in our art can learn more about each piece and see all the public art our city has to offer.”

Otocast is GPS activated so those downloading and using it in the area will have the option to choose any location throughout Sanford. This interactive experience will grow as the public art program grows, making it seamless for users as more pieces are added.

“Sanford’s public art is an incredible asset for the community,” said Mayor Chet Mann. “While it adds to the quality of life of area residents, it also serves as a huge draw for visitors. The Otocast app will enrich the experience of seeing the art by supplying the all-important backstory of each piece and its artist.”

The app is available for free download for Apple and Android devices. For more information or direct links, visit the city’s website at
