A 22-year-old Sanford woman was struck and killed by a stray bullet after multiple gunshots were fired around Chatham and South Moore streets near downtown Sanford Saturday night.

rayshawnDiamond Preosha Richardson was a passenger in a car traveling on Simmons Street (a few blocks away) around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Sanford Police Department, when she was struck. The driver of the vehicle drove her to Central Carolina Hospital’s emergency room, where she was pronounced dead.

When officers arrived in the area of the gunshots, they found several men running from the area, according to SPD Capt. Vinnie Frazer. Police chased the men on foot and caught two of them in a wooded area on Austin Street (a few blocks behind Bojangles and Alpaca restaurants).

The men were identified as 20-year-old Rayshawn Ahmik Donaldson and a 17-year-old whose name was not released. Both men have been charged with first degree murder. Donaldson is currently in Lee County Jail with no bond and a scheduled appearance in Lee County District Court on Monday. The younger suspect was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Raleigh.

Not much has been released about the victim, though unconfirmed social media reports say she was a mother of a young child.
