A fifth Lee County resident has died from COVID-19, the health department announced Friday afternoon.

“We are sorry to report another Lee County resident has passed away from complications related to COVID-19,” said Lee County Health Director Heath Cain. “Please keep the family and friends of the individual in your thoughts and prayers as we offer our sincere condolences for their loss.”

Meanwhile, the number of people in Lee County who have tested positive increased by 18 to 575. Eight new cases were announced on Thursday and 10 on Friday. The number of people who have recovered also jumped on Friday by 30, from 386 to 416.

The county only discloses demographic information – age range and gender – of those who have tested positive. The information is reported on a 24 hour delay, so the 10 new cases announced Friday are not included below.

But of the 565 cases reported through Thursday, 52 percent were female and 48 percent were male. There were 105 cases in people under 24, 223 between 25 and 44, 192 between 45 and 64, and 45 who were 65 or older.
