A 17th resident has died from COVID-19 related complications, the Lee County Health Department reported on Tuesday.
No information about the patient was released to protect privacy.
“I am saddened to report another COVID-19 related death of a Lee County resident; please keep the family and friends of the individual in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” said Lee County Health Director Heath Cain. “As cases rise in Lee County and across the state, we remind the public of the importance of following recommended guidelines that help slow the spread of the coronavirus and help to keep our family, friends and neighbors safe.”
The death was announced a day after local government announced a 130-case increase from the week prior, the largest increase in cases since early August. As of Oct. 19, 1,954 Lee County residents had tested positive, with 258 of those cases being active. 1,680 have recovered. Before Tuesday, the county’s most recent COVID-confirmed death was reported on Oct. 12.
