Lee County Elections Director Jeni Harris has announced she is leaving the position effective June 14.

“I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to join the Lee County Elections family at such an important time, and I have enjoyed meeting and working with everyone during the past year. I have been recently presented with a very exciting job opportunity, which I feel is something I should pursue for myself and my family,” Harris wrote in an email to members of the Board of Elections. “This time will allow me to continue to train new staff, assist in a successful transition to the new location, attend scheduled budget meetings, and to complete the ADA machine purchase.”

Harris’ tenure at the Board of Elections was short – she started the job in July of 2020, replacing Parker Holland, who left the job for a position with the state Board of Elections.

Meanwhile, the board has called a special public meeting for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday to discuss the process of hiring a new elections director. The meeting will be held at the Lee County Board of Elections office at 225 S. Steele St.
