The Sanford Spinners benefitted from some late inning magic Sunday night, taking the opening game of their 2022 season 9-4 over the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys.

The Old North State collegiate level summer league team, now in its second year, got strong performances from pitchers Jarrett Orbin (3 IP, 5 K, 0 R), Brent Byler (4 IP, 3 K, 2 H), Eddie Thompson (1 2/3 IP), and Evan Swift, who threw a scoreless ninth inning.

At the plate, the team got contributions from Hunter Poole, who had three hits in four at bats, as well as a walk and two RBIs, and Tyson Measamer, whose 2 run single in the 8th inning gave the Spinners the lead.

The Spinners are on the road tonight against the Fayetteville Chutes and will be back at Tramway Park next to Southern Lee High School against the Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders on Wednesday, the Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs on Thursday and the Gliders again on Friday. All those games have a 7 p.m. start time. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
