The Sanford Spinners improved to 3-0 on the 2022 season Thursday night with a 4-1 victory at home over the Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs.

The Spinners gave up just three hits between pitchers Evan Swift, Eddie Thompson, Kendall Vincent, and Justin Szczypinksi. Szczypinski, who recorded the win, struck out seven and issued two walks over four innings.

At the plate, the Spinners had singles from second baseman Jomai Douangvilay, first baseman Justin Marshall, first baseman Morgan Little, and third baseman Colby Warren. Catcher Josh Lallo had a double.

The Spinners took the first two games of the season, one at home and one on the road, and were rained out Wednesday night.

The Spinners are a collegiate level summer league team in the North Carolina-based Old North State League. They host the Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders 7 p.m. today at Tramway Park next to Southern Lee High School (admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children) before a four game road stint versus Oak City on Saturday, the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys on Sunday, the Swepsonville Sweepers on Monday, and the Bogeys again on Tuesday.
