The Sanford Spinners defeated the Fayetteville Chutes during a road game 13-2 on Monday night, bringing their record for the 2022 season to 2-0.

Starting pitcher Benito Valle-Jhanda went 5 innings without giving up an earned run (both of the Chutes’ runs came in the first inning and were unearned), and relievers Brice Herring and Nathan O’Brochta each added a scoreless inning to close out the game. The contest ended after seven innings due to the 10 run rule.

At the plate, the Spinners had nine hits, all but one of them singles (left fielder Colby Warren had a two-run double). Third baseman Kaden Sigmon and first baseman Tyson Measamer each had two singles. The Spinners put nine runs on the board in the sixth inning.

The Spinners are a collegiate level summer league team in the North Carolina-based Old North State League. They return to Tramway Park next to Southern Lee High School for home games against the Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders on Wednesday, the Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs on Thursday and the Gliders again on Friday. All those games have a 7 p.m. start time. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
