After a home contest against the Fayetteville Chutes scheduled for Friday night was rained out, the Sanford Spinners rolled over the Brunswick (Southport) Surfin’ Turfs on Sunday by double digits for the second consecutive game against the team.
After Sunday’s 13-2 win in Southport, the Spinners are 8-2 on the 2022 season. The Spinners also defeated Brunswick 17-4 on Thursday.
On Sunday, virtually every member of the lineup contributed at the plate, including infielder Gage Bibey with two doubles and a single and third baseman Kaden Sigmon with a double and three singles.
Pitchers Evan Swift and Nathan O’Brochta combined for eight innings with 12 strikeouts and just three hits and three walks.
The Spinners, a collegiate level summer league team in the North Carolina-based Old North State League, return to their home field at Tramway Park next to Southern Lee High School on Monday for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys – the team that has dealt the Spinners both of their losses this year. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
After Monday, the Spinners have Tuesday off and will host the Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday and Brunswick for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday.
