The Lee County Democratic Party voted Tuesday night to appoint Jamey Laudate to fill the unexpired term of Dr. Lynn Smith, who resigned from the Lee County Board of Education last week.
Laudate, who works for the SAS Institute as a research and development manager, ran unsuccessfully for the school board in 2020. The term expires in 2024.
The Rant Monthly will include a statement from Laudate about his appointment in the July 2022 edition.
Got to vote all these democrats out. They simply see things and believe differently.
AMEN Tommy!
Thank you Ron, Liz must be one of them
Comments like this are why the school board should be nonpartisan… you don’t know the first thing about my son, but you’re making assumptions because he has a D after his name. If it were an R, you’d be singing his praises, because he’s a great guy!
Got to vote all these Republicans out. They see things and believe differently😂
We must vote the republicans out. They don’t believe what they see, and are quite different.
I thought the new breed Republicant was born blind and deaf. Are you telling me they can actually hear and see?
amazing how many liberals are in Sanford,
So. Just because Laudate has a D beside his name he is automatically disqualified in your mind. It doesn’t matter that the man already volunteers in the schools, has a child in the public schools even though he has the means to send him to any private school in NC, is very successful in the private sector, is very well educated himself, has tech knowledge that could really help our local schools, is a product of Lee County schools, etc. You would rather have a guy with an R beside his name that can’t string a complete sentence together and whose only reason for running seems to be to put God Almighty back and schools and another guy with an R beside his name who is running because he was pissed his child had to wear a mask? Really?
Sorry, the D has a long history of hate, Jim Crow the Klan for starters, they will never get rid of that history, Republicans from the most part are weak with no back bone and fiscally irresponsible but not like the Dems … spend spend spend but they are much better than Democrats especially in the public school system, it’s obvious you have a hard on for this man, and that’s ok, this is why we vote,
Thank you, Jeff!
Tommy, I will agree that the old southern democrats were a hateful group. Jim Crow and the KKK are good examples of the old democrats. Unfortunately, you are obviously ignorant of the history of the last 70 plus years. Let me attempt to educate you. In the late 1940’s (80+ years after the civil war ended), President Truman was advancing a civil rights agenda. Well, those good ‘ol boys in the south didn’t quite cotton to the idea of “equal rights”. They decided that they would just start their own political party. They were the “States Rights Party”, but were known as the Dixiecrats.
You see, they were formerly the far right-wing of the democratic party, and they wanted to preserve the southern way of life, including segregation, and maintaining Jim Crow laws. They especially didn’t like that Truman desegregated the US military. That was the beginning of the end for the democrats 100 year hold on the political power in the south. Most southern blacks of the time were republicans. One famous guy you may have heard of was a republican. His name was Martin Luther King Jr.
Well, the Dixiecrats did well in the south, but couldn’t get a national following. Future republican mainstay Strom Thurman was their presidential candidate. He got his ass kicked, getting only a little over 2% of the national vote. The Dixiecrats short-lived existence was over by the 60’s.
Speaking of the 60’s, that’s when democrat president Lyndon Johnson passed the civil rights act. You can imagine how that got in the craw of those good ‘ol boys from the south. They were spitting fire! Republicans saw their opportunity, and took to heart the idea of a “Southern Strategy”.
Higher positioned republicans came up with the plan to appeal to the anti-civil rights sentiment in the south. They encouraged their candidates in the south to campaign on keeping the southern way of life alive. It was all a game to get those racists to change to supporting the republican party. Not coincidentally, but that is the same time that the republicans began the move towards conservatism as the only option in the party.
So now you know the history, and can stop equating the modern day republicans to Abe Lincoln, and democrats to the KKK. it’s just a lie today. 1922? Yep, I agree with you. 2022? Nope, not even close to the truth.
Also weird how the ones who bring up the accurate picture of hateful positions Democrats held never mention, say, Lincoln’s well documented correspondence with Karl Marx, or the GOP being literally founded in large part by socialist immigrants from Europe. Glad to take up Lincoln’s mantle, not thrilled to actually embrace his positions.

Lol, triggered?
Triggered? haha, Nah Bubba, just trying to educate you. You are a little lost when it comes to facts and knowledge. You’re welcome!

As an Independent who supported his candidacy, I was elated to read Jamey was selected to serve the remaining term of this seat. I noticed he has a D beside his name which translates to far more than a political ideology. For him it means dependable, determined, and dynamic. I would suggest to you he also has an R beside his name. As in respectful, relentless, and reasonable. He could even have an I beside his name. As in insightful, innovative, and imperturbable. It’s refreshing to see people willing to give back to the community they love via service in a time when personal attacks have become the norm. Looking forward to what he can contribute no matter if you are an R, a D, or an I, in time you will be impressed.
Thank you Chris!
