The Sanford Spinners topped the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys 3-2 on Monday night, bringing the season series with the only team yet to defeat the Spinners to 2-2 and making their overall record a division best 9-2.
Spinners pitcher Benito Valle-Jhanda earned the win, giving up two runs on three hits, striking out four and walking two over four innings. Relievers Brice Herring and Jarrett Orbin combined for five more scoreless, hitless innings with a combined 10 strikeouts and three walks.
At the plate, first baseman Kaden Sigmon and third baseman Morgan Little each had two singles.
The Spinners, a collegiate level summer league team in the North Carolina-based Old North State League, will be back at Tramway Park next to Southern Lee High School on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders and on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Brunswick (Southport) Surfin Turf’s. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
