The Sanford Spinners wrap up their 2022 season this weekend with three games in two days.
In a 7 p.m. Friday contest, the Spinners will host the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys at Tramway Park next to Southern Lee High School in a game likely to decide the winner of the Old North State League‘s Eastern Division. The Spinners currently lead the division by half a game with a 13-4 conference record (17-7 overall) over the Bogeys (13-5 conference, 16-8-1 overall).
Saturday, the Spinners host the Fayetteville Chutes (1-15 conference, 2-20 overall) for a double header with games at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. A Sunday contest against the Marion Swamp Foxes was canceled.
The Spinners opened the season in June with four straight wins and ended their first half in June with a record of 10-4. Since the collegiate summer league’s all star break, the team has gone 6-2, with wins over the High Point Hushpuppies, the Swepsonville Sweepers, the Bogeys, the Chutes, and the Brunswick (Southport) Surfin’ Turfs. The two losses came against Swepsonville and the Mecklenburg (Pineville) Muscadines.
The Spinners appear likely to qualify for the league’s playoffs, which begin on July 26. Each division’s first place team will play its fourth place team. The winner of that game will face the winner of a game between each division’s second and third place teams. The winner of each division advances to the finals, which take place over three games beginning on July 29 in Pineville.
Admission to games is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
