
The Sanford Spinners swept their weekend games, finishing the 2022 season in first place and advancing to the Old North State League‘s playoffs.
Friday, the Spinners topped the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys 6-1 to clinch first place in the collegiate summer league’s Eastern Division. In a Saturday double header against the Fayetteville Chutes, the Spinners won 8-3 in the first game and 13-3 in the second.
The team’s final regular season record was 20-7 overall and 16-4 in weighted “conference games.”
The league’s playoffs begin Tuesday with a 4 p.m. contest in Pinehurst against the fourth place Swepsonville Sweepers. Meanwhile, the second place Bogeys will play the third place Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders. The winners will face one another to advance to the league’s best-of-three championship series against the Western Division winners, set to begin Friday in Pineville, North Carolina.
If a third game is necessary, it will be played Saturday in Pineville.
