The Sanford Spinners won their first round playoff game 7-2 Tuesday over the Swepsonville Sweepers, setting up a second round game against rivals the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

In Tuesday’s game, the Spinners had contributions at the plate from infielder Justin Marshall (two hits, two RBI and one run), first baseman Morgan Little (two hits, two RBI and two runs), and catcher Josh Lallo (one hit, two RBI).

Pitchers Brent Byler, Brice Herring, Evan Swift, Jacob Cabaniss, and Jarrett Orbin combined for nine innings with 10 strikeouts, no walks, and just one earned run. Swift earned the win.

The Spinners face the rival Bogeys, who finished second behind Sanford in the collegiate summer level Old North State League‘s Eastern Division at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Pinehurst.  The Spinners won four of six matchups between the two teams in the 2022 season.

The winner of Wednesday’s contest will advance to the league’s three game championship series against the winner of the Western Division, set to begin Friday in Pinehurst. Two games are scheduled for Friday, and a third will be played if necessary on Saturday.
