UPDATE (11:01 a.m.): Lee County Schools has issued the following statement:

“The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has determined there is no threat to the safety of students and staff at Southern Lee High School after an anonymous tip of a bomb threat was made to the school earlier this morning. Students and staff are returning to classrooms and resuming a normal schedule.

ORIGINAL STORY: Southern Lee High School was locked down Wednesday morning due to a bomb threat against the school, Lee County Schools has announced via Facebook.

 

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after the arrest by Lee County sheriff’s deputies of a juvenile student accused of making bomb threats in March and April – including one on Tuesday – against Southern Lee’s sister school, Lee County High School.

Wednesday’s bomb threat brings the total number of threats against high schools in Lee County since November to seven – five at LCHS and two at Southern.
