The Sanford Spinners opened the 2023 season Sunday with a 13-2 road win over the Clayton Clovers.

Spinners starting pitcher Brent Byler went three innings, giving up five hits and a run, while relievers Brice Herring, Eddie Thompson, and Jacob Cabaniss allowed just one hit and one run over four additional innings. The Spinners’ offense totaled 10 hits, including doubles from third baseman Kaden Sigmon, utility player Keagan Baxter, and outfielder Brady Nathison. First baseman Kanyon Gagich had three singles.

The Spinners have high hopes for a strong 2023 after finishing with a league-best record of 21-8 and making it to the second round of the collegiate level Old North State League playoffs.

The Sandhills Bogeys currently lead the ONSL’s Central Division at 2-0, with the Spinners behind by half a game at 1-0. The Spinners’ next game is a road contest against the Hendersonville Honeycrisps on Saturday, and the team makes its home debut at Tramway Park adjacent to Southern Lee High School against the Clovers again on Friday, June 2 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for general admission and $4 for kids, and can be purchased through the team’s website or on gameday.
