A Sanford man was charged with felony hit and run after allegedly killing a teenage pedestrian in a wreck Saturday morning, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened around 5:30 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Firetower Road and North Carolina Highway 78, a member of the Highway Patrol told The Rant. The victim, a 16-year-old who was not identified due to her age, was walking toward 78 on Firetower Road when she was struck by Josue Palacios, 39, of Circle Avenue in Sanford.
Troopers said Palacios left the scene of the wreck but was identified as the suspect through an investigation and located later the same morning. Troopers indicated that Palacios did not seem to be impaired and told authorities he thought he’d hit a deer. It was still dark out at the time of the accident.
Palacios was charged with felony hit and run resulting in serious injury or death and failure to report a motor vehicle accident. He was taken to the Lee County Jail, where he is currently being held under $100,000 secured bond.

What if her parents took her to work, why wouldn’t her ride pick her up at her house, why was she walking in the middle of the road, why was she walking with her back to traffic…

If you were a parent and your teenage daughter was hit and killed what would you say? It’s pretty sad that your concern is more with why she was there and not the fact that her parents will never hear her voice again, never be able to hug her, her siblings will never see her again. She was ripped away from her family and friends. He hit her and left drove away like she was nothing. We should be praying for her family not trying to question why she was there. Trust me you can bet they wish this was all just something they could wake up from but they can’t, it’s a nightmare. Every parents worst nightmare so how about all you asking why she was there take a moment and ask yourself.. what if it happened to me because I can bet that you would think a little differently. No one ever expects it to happen to someone so close but when it does I can tell you it rips your heart out. So less judgement and more empathy would be nice. Have the day you deserve!

Not only is it highly unusual and just not safe for a 16 year old female to be walking down some dark road at 5:30 in the AM; but also if you think about it, she was likely walking on the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. Walk AGAINST TRAFFIC; BIKE W TRAFFIC. He should have called it in; however idk how people don’t know how to bike and walk properly. I learned that in 1st grade.

I’d suggest googling them but apparently you don’t like Google. These newspapers kept people up to date on happenings in the world. In Sanford’s newspaper, it was reported the victim was walking in the middle of the road with her back to traffic. So, yeah, I’m not just hiding behind my screen. Before you attack someone, you should really check multiple sources before you end up with your foot in your mouth…again…

The fact of the matter is…. she was a whole person WALKING… and HE was the person (“allegedly”) behind the wheel driving RECKLESSLY and inattentive to what was clearly in front of him. Dark or not, that’s what head lights are for. “allegedly” HE stuck her hard enough to take that beautiful girls life from her and everybody that loved her/ knew her, then kept going. Did not report NOTHING, with half his windshield gone and his car caved in. Intent to hide what he knew he did. Another law broken. Who can’t tell the difference between a deer and a person smashing through your windshield?!!!! Walking early in the morning is NOT against the law, nor does it warrant an excuse to be negligent behind the wheel. He should spend the rest of his life behind bars. This was murder with intent to conceal.
