After dropping a Wednesday away game to the Hope Mills Rockfish 18-12 and a Thursday home game against the Brunswick (Southport) Surfin’ Turfs 8-5, the Sanford Spinners got a much needed win against the Jacksonville Ospreys Saturday night at Tramway Park.

The 11-8 win, the Spinners’ first since opening the season 3-0, brings the team to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the collegiate summer level Old North State League’s Southeastern Division, good for fourth place.

Six members of the team had hits – outfielder Cash Riley, second baseman Brady Byler (who also stole three bases), outfielder Christian Grino, outfielder Drew Berenyi, catcher Reese Ashworth, and infielder Kaden Ethier (who also had three runs batted in and a stolen base).

Pitcher Austin Renn earned the win.

The Spinners are on the road Tuesday against the Surfin’ Turfs, to whom they have lost twice, before returning home for games at Tramway Park adjacent to Southern Lee High School at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Jacksonville and at 7 p.m. Thursday against the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys. The team is on the road this weekend with games against Jacksonville on Saturday and Hope Mills on Sunday.

Tickets ($8 for 13 and up, $4 for 6-12, free for kids under 5) to home games can be purchased at games or online at www.sanfordspinners.com.
