
The Sanford Spinners beat the Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders twice during a doubleheader on Wednesday night, moving to 3-0 in the collegiate level Old North State League.
The Spinners won 11-1 in the first game and 14-3 in the second, with both games (played in Raleigh) ending early due to the league’s 10 run rule.
In game one, the lineup combine for seven hits, including two doubles from catcher Coleman Mcginnis and a triple from outfielder BJ Brown. Pitchers Cooper Chasse, who earned the win, Nate Galloway, Nash Parsons, and Riley Mullen combined for five innings with four strikeouts and three walks.
The offensive show continued in game two, with eight hits including two triples from third baseman Pierce Bouwman and one from catcher Eli Snodgrass. Shortstop AJ Ciaccio had two stolen bases. Pitcher Eddie Thompson earned the win and combined with Bobby Osburn, Drew Landmark, Ethan Levy, Jack Litt, Logan Mize, and Nick Pope for six innings with eight strikeouts and eight walks.
The Spinners’ home opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Tramway Park adjacent to Southern Lee High School against the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys. The team will host the Hope Mills Rockfish at 7 p.m. on Saturday (a game which will feature Murphy the Bat Dog, a development for which The Rant is very excited, good boy, good dog).
