The Sanford Spinners were 2-1 over the weekend and Monday, topping the division rival Jacksonville Ospreys 6-5 on Saturday, losing to the division rival Hope Mills Rockfish 10-5 on Sunday, and defeating the Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders 3-2 on Monday.

The Spinners’ overall record stands at 8-8 with just over a month left to play in the summer collegiate level Old North State League’s 2024 season. The Spinners’ Southeastern Division record is 5-7, good for fourth place out of five teams.

The Spinners won Saturday’s game in Jacksonville in the top of the eighth inning, when the score had been tied 5-5 until third baseman Cade Martinez drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.

Pitcher Drew Landmark earned the win, allowing two hits over two innings.

On Sunday, the Spinners’ got seven hits and five runs in the road loss but gave up 10 runs on nine hits. Pitcher Ethan Levy was credited with the loss.

The Spinners bounced back Monday with a 3-2 non-division home win over the Gliders. The game was mostly a pitchers’ duel until the eighth inning, when the Spinners took the lead on a groundout RBI from outfielder Drew Berenyi. The Spinners also got a groundout RBI from catcher Ashton Donathan and another RBI from first baseman Aaron Kimbel.

Starting pitcher Cole Bowie struck out six and walked on over six innings. Reliever Jack Litt earned the win.

The Spinners close out June with a non division home matchup on Friday against the Carolina White Sox, a non Old North State League team based in Jackson Springs. The second half of the season kicks off July 2 with a home game against the division rival Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys. After that, 11 of the Spinners’ remaining games are against division rivals.
