Sanford police are investigating the embezzlement of over $170,000 from the Lee County Schools district.
The district reported to authorities on Thursday that $171,220 had been taken. The money was “last known secure” on Oct. 1, 2023, according to the report.
Lee County Schools issued a brief statement about what it called “potential misappropriation of school system funds” after 10 p.m. on Friday, noting that Superintendent Dr. Chris Dossenbach was “leading an immediate and thorough review of the situation to ensure transparency and accountability.”
The district provided no other details, other than that to say the matter had been reported to law enforcement. Sanford police provided the incident report to The Rant on Monday and said the investigation is ongoing.
The report doesn’t name a suspect, and no arrests had been made as of 5 p.m. Monday.

The plot thickens $
And the plot sickens.
First full day of the new Federal Fiscal year is October 1. Sounds like a federal grant. Or it could be a long carried bookkeeping thing. A contractual payment that was not approved by the Board?
Maybe another audit needs to be done
