Sanford Mayor Rebecca Wyhof Salmon announced this week that she’ll seek a second term in the 2025 municipal elections.
A press release from Salmon said she’s focused on “a balanced approach to growth ensuring that Sanford has the infrastructure and proactive planning it needs, while preserving the charm that makes the city special.”
“We’ve made strategic investments, strengthened key partnerships and positioned Sanford for continued success. The City has opened a new fire station, invested in public safety, created the regional utility TriRiver Water, started construction of the Pilgram’s Sanford Agricultural Marketplace, updated the Residential Unified Development Ordinance, and worked to foster a vibrant quality of life for all our residents,” her statement read. “The results of the past few years are clear. Our fire rating has improved to a Class 2, placing us in the top 8% of departments in the state. Our innovative utility partnerships will ensure that Sanford can provide high-quality drinking water to meet the needs of a growing community while reducing costs. Our downtown is thriving, and we have added community festivals, concerts and events across the city. Through our collaborative efforts, we continue to attract new businesses, create jobs and expand our tax-base.”
Salmon was elected mayor in 2022, serving a shortened term after issues with the U.S. Census delayed the 2021 municipal elections. She defeated fellow Democrat Sam Gaskins in the 2022 primary and was unopposed in the general election that year. Prior to serving as mayor, Salmon was a member of the Sanford City Council from 2011 to 2022. She is also the president of Blue Roof Strategies and currently serves on the board of directors of the Sanford Area Growth Alliance.
