The Sanford Spinners will host an Old North State League playoff game Wednesday for the first time in the team’s history.
The Spinners finished the 2025 season at 14-13, good for fourth place in the ONSL’s Piedmont Division. The ONSL is a summer league for collegiate level players; the Spinners joined the league in 2021, taking their name from a minor league team that played in Sanford in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
Each team in the ONSL’s various divisions gets a playoff berth. The top two teams – in the Piedmont Division that was the Lexington Flying Pigs (22-8) and the Wake Forest Fungo (17-12) – in each division get a first round bye.
The Spinners will host the High Point Hushpuppies, who finished in fifth place with an 8-16 record, at 7 p.m. at Tramway Park. The Spinners were 2-1 against High Point during the regular season.
Lexington will host the winner of that game on Thursday, and Wake Forest will host the winner of a Wednesday game between the Danville Dairy Daddies (6-22) and the Raleigh Red Oaks (15-11).
Once a winner from each division is determined, the playoffs will move into three game series in the semifinal and final rounds.
The Spinners play at Tramway Park adjacent to Southern Lee High School. Admission for adults is $10; $5 for children 6 to 13. Click here for tickets.
