The Sanford Spinners overcame a 7-0 deficit Wednesday to beat the High Point Hushpuppies in the first round of the Old North State League’s Piedmont Division playoffs Wednesday.
Spinners catcher Christian Mouriz drove in two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Spinners an 8-7 victory over the Hushpuppies and move on to the second round of the ONSL Piedmont Division’s 2025 playoffs.
The game will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday (July 24) at Holt-Moffitt Field, home of the Lexington Flying Pigs. Lexington led the division in the regular season with a 22-8 record. The Spinners were 2-4 against Lexington during the regular season.
The winner of tonight’s matchup with Lexington will face the winner of another game between the Danville Dairy Daddies and the Wake Forest Fungo on Friday. The winner of that game will be the Piedmont Division’s champion and move on to the ONSL’s playoff semi finals. The semi finals and finals will be made up of three game series.
The ONSL is a summer league for collegiate level players; the Spinners joined the league in 2021, taking their name from a minor league team that played in Sanford in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
