The Sanford Spinners’ 2025 season came to an end Thursday with a 3-1 loss to the Lexington Flying Pigs in the second round of the Old North State League’s Piedmont Division playoffs.

The Spinners finished the regular season with a 14-13 record, good for fourth place in the division. They hosted Sanford’s first-ever Old North State League playoff game on Wednesday, turning back the High Point Hushpuppies with a walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth inning.

But Lexington, who led the division with a 22-8 record, proved too tough for the Spinners, who posted on social media Thursday night that “this group of guys played their hearts out all summer, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they represented Sanford. See you in 2026.”

The ONSL is a summer league for collegiate level players; the Spinners joined the league in 2021, taking their name from a minor league team that played in Sanford in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
