The Sanford-Lee County Planning Department’s Technical Review Committee will look at proposals for a hotel near the Lee County Athletic Park, multiple housing subdivisions and a handful of other projects on May 28.
The TRC is comprised of local officials from various city and county government entities and meets monthly to review commercial projects and major subdivisions for compliance with the codes and policies of various local departments. TRC approval of a project – or even submission of a proposal for consideration – is not a concrete indicator that the project will happen; the TRC only looks at whether proposals meet city, county and state requirements.
The hotel project is a Tru by Hilton, which if built would go at the entrance to the Lee County Athletic Park along Broadway Road. Tru by Hilton is owned by Hilton Worldwide and its locations are owned by franchisees. According to documents on file with the Planning Department, the hotel would be 46,000-plus square feet and contain 98 rooms. The property would also contain two outparcel tracts that could presumably be further developed.

Also on the TRC agenda are two housing subdivisions.
The first, Lemon Springs Meadows, would consist of 46 single family lots on 52 acres at the intersection of Lemon Springs Road and Deerfield Drive.
Another, Thomas Grove, would consist of 93 single family lots on 37.7 acres at Lee Avenue and Cedarhurst Drive.
Additional items on the agenda include:
*A transportation facility for Lee County Schools on 6.18 acres at 416 Cox Maddox Road. It would include a driver training pad for CDL certification and bus parking,
*A Sanford Contractors recycling facility on 15-plus acres at 628 Rocky Fork Church Road, and
*An overflow lot for Sanford Honda which would be located on 2.1 acres on Wilson Road behind the Ruby Tuesday and Cracker Barrel locations.
