Several environmental groups are out with a second “Fracking Crew” ad, this time targeting state representatives Mike Stone (R-Lee) and Jamie Boles (R-Moore) for their votes to fast track fracking.
“Stone and Boles just voted to fast track fracking, even though fracking can poison our air and drinking water,” the narrator in the ad says. “Fracking uses toxic chemicals, including benzene, silica, formaldehyde. Chemicals that can cause cancer and birth defects.”
Stone, a friend of The Rant, and Boles both voted in favor of Senate Bill 786, the so-called Energy Modernization Act, just last month. The law, which has been signed by Gov. McCrory, allows the issuance of drilling permits beginning next spring.
This is the second in a series of “Fracking Crew” ads from the North Carolina Environmental Partnership. The first targeted state senators Ron Rabin (R-Lee, Harnett), Wesley Meredith (R-Cumberland) and Chad Barefoot (R-Wake).
Mary McLean Asbill, an attorney for the Southern Environmental Law Center, foreshadowed the ads in March, telling WRAL.com “this is just the first phase of this campaign. There are others that certainly can and will be held accountable.”
I vote for Brad Salmon in November would seem to be in order.
