Daniel Wayne Groth, 44, of Bowles Lane in western Harnett County faces seven counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Captain Jeff Johnson of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies seized a cell phone from Groth after identifying him as responsible for posting up to seven pornographic images of children online.
“We get tips from the FBI, and we’ve probably been working on this for about 30 days,” Johnson said.
According to Johnson, the case remains under investigation to determine whether Groth possesses more images like the ones deputies already found. Johnson said that while Groth currently lives in Harnett County, there was evidence indicating he shared the images dating back to 2019, when he apparently lived in Lee County.
Groth was placed in the Lee County Jail under $100,000 secured bond.
