The Sanford Spinners continued their win streak Saturday with a 5-1 victory over the Oak City (Raleigh) Gliders, but dropped their first contest of the 2022 season on Sunday afternoon with an 8-6 loss to the Sandhills (Pinehurst) Bogeys.

On Saturday against the Gliders, pitcher Brent Byler went 4.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits. He struck out five and walked two. Reliever Evan Swift finished out the game with 4.2 one-hit innings, striking out four and walking one.

First baseman Morgan Little had four singles and an RBI, while third baseman Kaden Sigmon and outfielders Noah Kessler and Max Bowers each contributed doubles.

On Sunday against the Bogeys, the Spinners were down 8-2 going into the eighth inning and fought back with three runs in that inning and another in the ninth. The team had a runner on second and the tying run at the plate when the game ended.

Both games were part of a four game road trip which continues at 7 p.m. on Monday against the Swepsonville Sweepers and 4 p.m. on Tuesday against the Bogeys again. The Spinners, a collegiate level summer league team in the North Carolina-based Old North State League, are now 5-1 for the 2022 season.

The team returns to its home field, Tramway Park next to Southern Lee High School, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against the Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
